How long does the xenon last in the body
What are the risks associated with Xenon?
- PONV (Post Operative Nausea and Vomiting)
- The potential for this is lower than with other anesthetics but is still considerable.
- Eating should be avoided 3 hours before and drinking from 1 hour before; shouldn't eat or drink 1 hour after (these are rough guidelines from what I've read but I'd like to find a source to cite here)
- Apparently this is a generally common thing with anesthetics and (anesthesiologist) gives patients a cocktail of drugs to manage nausea. I only have ondansetron (though I've found it quite effective) which should help considerably. Would need to consult him on recommended dosing
- Addiction
- In the [Hamilton's Pharmucopia video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVahys8MWLo&pp=ygUOaGFtaWx0b24geGVub24%3D) on xenon, the owner of the clinic looks to be pretty clearly addicted to it at the end. While on xenon, and while being filmed, she tries to convince the person supervising her to increase her doseage and when he says no she tries to do it herself (while already being on xenon). One of the owners of the clinic died a few weeks after they filmed that episode, while on xenon though the clinic claims it was for non xenon related reasons (cardiac arrest)
- My impression is that it's psychologically addictive, not physically
- Hypoxia risk
- Unlike nitrous oxide, xenon doesn't cause hypoxia to the brain from just inhalation
- If you inhale only xenon though you can risk giving yourself too little oxygen
- Equipment malfunctions
- Xenon rebreathers
- (anesthesiologist) claims that as long as you're not putting someone all the way under risk is lower
- There's still risk here of fucking up oxygen/xenon ratios and if the equipment is used poorly not being able to tell
- **check if pulse oximeters help**
- There are probably a bunch of other risks to using professional anesthesia equipment that I just don't understand
- Scuba diving rebreathers
- need to talk to people more to understand this
- talk to mario/katherine's friend
